Demographics
The Village of Wabamun is located 64 km west of Edmonton and 32 km west of Stony Plain, just south of Highway 16 on the north shore of Lake Wabamun. The Village is partially serviced by nearby metropolitan areas, including Edmonton, Stony Plain and Spruce Grove. Still, the Village provides a wide range of services to its residents and the surrounding area. Many of the region's people are employed with TransAlta Utilities or the Whitewood Surface Mine.
Wabamun's economic base has been traditionally centered around the TransAlta generation plant and water-based recreation. Today, locals are capitalizing on the growing popularity of the Village's lakefront marina and park, focusing their efforts on making Wabamun the lakeshore destination of choice on the Yellowhead Highway. Accordingly, the Village is implementing economic development strategies that will bolster residential and commercial growth in conjunction with a focus on tourism.

Wabamun is proud to be a family-friendly community, and continuing to develop and promote this fact will remain a priority of the Village. Planning for the future, the Village may pursue the development of a senior high school in the community.
